Finally over

Now that America has named Barack Obama our new President-elect, I'd say the two results of this deicision that I am most excited about are:

1. The incessant Bush-bashing and criticism of the current administration should get quieter as we wait to see what will happen next.

2. There is no arguing that Obama's election marks a pivotal moment in US history. Due in part to my geographical location, and primarily to my age, I have witnessed very little in the way of racial injustice. I personally don't find the idea of a black president the least bit shocking, except in the context of its significant position along our country's journey out of prejudice.

Mostly, I am deeply relieved that the election hooplah is finally finished for a while. I need a little break before being ready to focus on my crucial responsibility of voting for our next American Idol!

I feel the same way about this historic election. To me, a black man becoming president is awesome, but not so incredible, in the literal sense of the word. Obviously there are people out there for whom this is a much bigger deal.

Uh huh. I actually think the color of our president's skin is no big deal. And when I start to feel guilty for not thinking his accomplishment is incredible, I remind myself that it is only a testament to the evolution of generations.
